The "Giant" Camel Spider of Iraq
The "giant" camel spider
There have been many rumors being circulated about the camel spider. First off the size is GREATLY exaggerated. Many people point to this picture as proof of the camel spiders "gigantic size". However, if you look at it more closely you will notice that it is actually two spiders.
One is actually biting the other.
The spiders themselves aren't even that large.
Look at the size of the hand compared to the size of the spiders.
The spiders are simply close to the camera which makes them appear bigger than they are.
Other myths about the camel spider include:
1. It attacks humans.
It does not attack anything larger than itself. It avoids sunlight and whenever it is out in the open with no shade it will run for the nearest shade and sometimes that means chasing after a terrified human.
2. It carries a "numbing poison"
The camel spider is a member of the arachnid family Solifugae (which technically means it isn't even a spider). None of the members of this arachnid family use any kind of poison. It relies on stealth and speed (a top speed of about 10 MPH)
I seem to be hearing more and more about this "spider" along with many scary stories about its ferocious flesh-eating appetite. ITS NOT TRUE!!! __________________
